Unlocking Potential. When philanthropist John Simmons founded this all women’s, liberal arts college back in 1899, he put in the charter that it would lose funding if it didn’t remain true to its mission of educating women. Not only was he pioneering equal opportunity in education, he specifically encouraged girls to study STEM disciplines before the acronyms “STEM” or “DEI” were part of our vernacular. While many Americans aren’t sure why we need DEI programs, realize that only about 2% of licensed CPA’s are black, with the number of female, black CPA’s being a subset thereof. Only 1% of partners at CPA firms are African American. As a brand, Simmons continues its long standing tradition of graduating confident, boardroom ready young ladies. Go Sharks!
